Baldness

Baldness is the absence of hair growth where it normally occurs. The pattern of hair loss varies between men and women. In men, the hairline gradually recedes with age. There may be extensive hair loss at the crown of the head. In women, hair thins over the entire head with age. There may also be some loss at the crown.

The FDA recognizes OTC topical minoxidil for treating hair loss caused by genetic factors. It takes up to four months to see evidence of hair growth. To maintain hair growth, the treatment must be continuous.
