Ringworm (tinea corpus) is a fungal skin infection usually found on the scalp, face, back, or thighs. It typically appears as slightly raised irregular red rings that tend to expand as the infection progresses. Ringworm is a highly contagious condition spread by contact with contaminated objects such as combs, hairbrushes, or clothing. OTC antifungals usually provide relief from ringworm. Commonly used antifungal agents are tolnaftate, clotirmazole, miconazole, undecylenate, and clioquinol. Individuals who do not see improvement from applying an antifungal agent should see a doctor after two weeks. |
