Vertigo is the feeling of constant motion or dizziness. The sufferer may feel a constant spinning or tilting sensation. Vertigo is caused by changes in the inner ear canals, overstimulation of the inner ear, or changes to the nerve tracts leading from the inner ear canals. In some cases vertigo is secondary to another condition, such as flu or ear infection (otitis media). Symptoms usually disappear when the primary condition clears. OTC antihistamines may relieve some of the symptoms of vertigo. Certain antihistamines, such as Dramamine, Benadryl, Bonine, Dramamine 2, and Marezine, relieve vertigo because they have a depressant effect on the inner ear. |
