| Earwax |
|
The ear canal produces a wax (cerumen) that coats the canal and protects the inner ear from foreign particles. Over time, due to improper hygiene or other causes, the wax may harden and build up in the ear. In some cases, this can lead to hearing loss. OTC preparations for earwax usually contain the active ingredient carbamide peroxide in a lubricant base. This ingredient helps loosen and break up wax. Never try to remove earwax by sticking an object into your ears. Q-Tips and similar ear swabs are designed to clean outer portions of ears, not to remove wax. |
