Menstrual Pain (Dysmenorrhea)

Dysmenorrhea is the pain that may accompany the first several days of menstruation. Usually, menstrual cramps are not severe. Women who experience severe pain should see a physician.

OTC products for menstrual cramps are typically combination products which contain an internal analgesic for pain and a diuretic to reduce water retention.

Acetaminophen is most commonly used for pain. Pamabrom is the most commonly used diuretic ingredient. Products that combine these ingredients include Midol IB Cramp Relief Formula, and Pamprin Maximum Pain Relief.
