Homemade grenadine adds distinctive flavor and color to drinks, fruit mixtures, sauces, and desserts and makes a great gift during the holiday season. For a festive holiday aperitif, add 1 or 2 tablespoons to sparkling wine; drop a few fresh or frozen seeds to each glass.

Prep: 5 min, Cook: 5 min, plus cooling time.
  • 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar

In a small saucepan, combine pomegranate juice and sugar. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved; boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and cool. Cover and refrigerate up to 2 weeks. Freeze, in airtight containers, up to 3 months. Makes 1-1/4 cups.
