Beef Stir-Fry with Broccoli
Prep: 10 min, Cook: 10 min.
  • 13 ounces rump, sirloin or fillet steak, cut into very thin strips
  • 1-1/2 Tbs. cornflour, level
  • 1/4 tsp. Chinese five-spice
  • 3 Tbs. light or dark soy sauce
  • 6 ounces broccoli
  • 2 Tbs. sesame oil
  • 1 Tbs. fresh ginger, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 red pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 bunch salad onions, sliced diagonally
  • 1/4 cup sherry, optional
  • 2 Tbs. water

Place steak in a bowl with cornflour, Chinese five-spice, and soy sauce. Mix well and marinate for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, thinly slice broccoli stalks and separate the florets. Heat oil in a wok or large frying pan. Add marinated steak, ginger, and garlic and stir fry for 3 or 4 minutes. Add the pepper, broccoli, and the salad onions and stir fry for 2 minutes. Add the sherry (optional) and water. Cover and steam for 1 minute. Transfer to a warmed serving dish and serve with rice.
