Preheat oven to 400°F. Melt butter in a 12-14 inch heavy ovenproof nonstick skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle sugar over melted butter. Arrange apples, cored side up, in concentric circles over sugar. Pack skillet tightly. Cook apples 15-20 minutes over medium high heat or until a golden caramel is formed and apples are softened. Remove skillet from heat and allow apples to cool slightly. Roll pastry out to form a circle. Set pastry dough over apples and cover completely, tucking pastry in at the edges. Bake 30-35 minutes or until pastry is golden brown and crisp. Cool 5-10 minutes. Run a spatula around the edge of the skillet and invert tart onto a large platter. Serve with frozen yogurt. This recipe serves 8 people. Due to the nature of this recipe, it adjusts the number of servings in multiples of 8 only.
