Boiling Water When bringing water to a boil, using a lid reduces the time it takes to boil. When boiling food in water, lower the burner after the water begins to boil so that it continues to boil but uses less energy. Adding a little salt to water before boiling it makes the water boil at a higher temperature, thus reducing cooking time. (It does not make the water boil faster.) |
