Keeping Milk Fresh Here are some tips to help keep milk fresh: * Pick up milk at the end of your shopping trip, drive home promptly and refrigerate immediately. Do not leave milk in a hot car. * Have milk double-bagged in paper, and store the milk on the car floorboards to keep it as cool as possible. * When serving milk, keep it in the original container, pour only what you need from the container, and return it to the refrigerator quickly. * Remember to keep cold food cold and hot food hot. For cold foods, the temperature danger zone is higher than 40 degrees F. At that point, bacteria can grow and thrive. To remember this temperature point, keep this simple rule in mind: "Life begins at 40." * Buy an inexpensive refrigerator thermometer, and make sure it reads below 40 degrees F.
