Storing Apples A little care must be taken to store apples at home to keep them at their best. Place small quantities in plastic bags in refrigerator to prevent shriveling and transfer of odors. Store large quantities in a cool dark, airy place. Long or improper storage results in mealy apples with brown cores. Sort occasionally to remove those with signs of spoilage. Refrigerator shelf life: one to two weeks, depending upon variety and maturity of apple. Freezer: prepared for freezing - 1 year. Source: North Carolina Cooperative Extension |
