Using Fresh Catfish U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish purchased fresh (never been frozen): From the day of purchase,assuming the product has been at the store in the case less than two days, fillets should be used or frozen within two to three days after purchase. Some things to look for when purchasing fresh fish are a mild, fresh odor and moist, firm flesh without browning or drying around the edges.
